You hear all this talk about making money through the internet, but much of the advice is rather general in nature. It makes you wonder just exactly how this can be done because, let’s face it, we all have bills that need to be paid. To tell you honestly, there are a lot of ways that you can make money online. Adsense is one of the easiest and simplest of them.

What is Adsense?

Google Adsense is one of the cooler little programs on the web. Well, little in the sense that it is very simple, but big in the sense it packs a big punch. There are entire companies that have been built around the program, but that isn’t a particularly smart move in my opinion.

So, what is it exactly? To understand, you first need to understand how people do paid internet marketing on Google. A site that sells something can buy ads on Google. They typically want these ads to appear in the search results on Google. If you use Google, you see them all the time. They are the ads at the top of the search results and running down the right column. The advertisers bid for placement. When their ads are clicked, they are charged a bid price that can range from five cents a click up to 20 dollars or more for certain keyword phrases.

Adsense is an extension of this program. You can sign your site up with Google and place these ads on your own site. When someone clicks the ads, Google will give you a percentage of the click. The percentage depends on the type of ads you list, but are always more than 50 percent.

Great Starter Idea

If you are just starting out, this is a great way to make some money quickly on the web. Adsense is very simple to use and implement on a site. As time passes, you can start bringing in more and more money, which makes it great for a newbie. Although you will never make huge money with Adsense, it is a good place to start since it will give you the positive reinforcement you need to move forward with your online education.

Warning

It can be easy to get hooked on Adsense and just build site after site for it. This is a huge mistake. The problem is Google is very finicky. They can and do terminate accounts all the time without explanation. Putting all your eggs in one basket with Google is always a mistake, so make sure you don’t get trapped.

There are plenty of ways to make money on the web. Adsense is as good a place to start as any, but just keep in mind that it is a starting point, not an end.
